ou will be aware that Fr Gareth Jones died on 9th October and that his funeral took place in Yeovil.

Many people who knew Fr Gareth were unable to travel to the funeral so there is to be a Requiem Mass and Thanksgiving for his life at St Wilfrid’s on Saturday 25th November at 11am. The celebrant will be the Bishop of Horsham, Fr Gareth’s godson. The service will be followed by the interment of Fr Gareth’s ashes in the area outside the Duchy door.

As Fr Gareth served the parish for a number of years it is hoped that many of you will be able to attend this service.

Christmas Decorations
We are very fortunate to have had a new crib set donated this year to replace the very broken and cobbled together set we’ve been using. Donors have also already paid for a large Christmas tree. We’d love to add new lights and other decorations. The total cost is about £500. Are there members of the congregation who would like to donate between them to enhance our decorations. As we will be in church this year throughout the season your donation will be very much on show! If you can help, please send your gift marked “Christmas Decorations” to the office. Thank you.

Confirmation
Before Fr Gary looks for potential dates for next year he would like to know if there are children or adults for whom the time has come to be confirmed. If you are interested please let Linda know in the office.

All Saints and All Souls Day 1st and 2nd November
On each of these days there will be a Solemn Mass at 7pm. Lists for names of the departed are now available in the office and will be put out for the next 2 Sundays. Names must be on the list by Sunday 28th October. Please do not leave it too late as we need some time to type up the lists and decipher your writing.
You should, of course make sure that if you include names that you are present at mass that day to pray for them!

Harvest Festival
On 24 September we shall as usual be supporting the Harrogate Homeless Project.  They are always very pleased to receive whatever we send, but they did say that tea, coffee and sugar, cereals, long life milk, tinned meat and tinned potatoes, and toiletries are particularly useful.

September onwards
From today, you’ll notice some changes to the pattern of daily services. Fr Gary will also be changing his day off from a Monday to a Saturday. A diary update is  available, which also lists the readings etc for each Sunday – and has all the details of the daily pattern up to the end of the year. Please keep an additional eye on the pewsheet – where we’ll try to keep you informed of any last minute changes that have become necessary.

Fr Gary is delighted to announce that the Chancellor of the Diocese has approved our Faculty application for the new heating scheme.
(Faculty jurisdiction is the legal process which exempts the Church of England from having to use the local planning system). Work is already in hand to agree a start date and order the new radiators as well as to fit a new gas meter.
Once a start date is confirmed (likely to be mid August) the works should take up to 10 weeks. The engineers will work around services as much as possible - but there is likely to be some disruption at times.
Your patience would therefore be very much appreciated.
The excellent news is, of course that by the winter, we should have a church which isn’t freezing! Thanks be to God.

General Synod
Fr Gary will be at the York meeting of General Synod from the morning of Friday 7th July and returns to the parish for mass on the evening of Tuesday 11th July. He will be driving back to preside at the Parish Mass on Sunday 9th at 10am, but will return to York immediately after mass has ended. If there are any pastoral issues, Fr Tim should be able to deal with them, and the office staff will deal with any other enquiries as usual.
