Who are we?

We are a group of local residents, called the “Duchy Helpers”. We are working in collaboration with the Duchy Residents’ Association and St Wilfrid’s church to help our neighbours. Below are the key contact details, but we also have 20 + local volunteers to mobilise if necessary.

What can we do?
It is difficult to say what help people will need, but it could be shopping/medicine collection for those who are housebound (for whatever reason, including lack of childcare), key workers and other people in need of any kind of support, even if you are just worried and need a chat. If we can help, we will-whatever the problem – but we will need to prioritise the most serious requests.
How it works:
1. Call or text us on 07377 231699 or email between the hours of
9am and 5pm , 7 days a week
2. One of our volunteers will pick up your call or email
3. They will then either deal with your request themselves, or identify a volunteer near you from our list (ideally on your street) to help.

• We are taking the safety of our volunteers and recipients of help seriously. In the event that a volunteer is required to do shopping, the volunteer will discuss the most appropriate method of payment for those items, depending on the circumstances.

• All volunteers will carry ID.

• Due to social distancing volunteers are not permitted into recipients’ homes or within 2 metres of people. If for example we are asked to collect shopping, this will then be left on the doorstep.

• All personal data of recipients of help (name, age, address, phone number etc) will be kept confidentially in line with GDPR. By providing that information to the volunteer you are agreeing to the sharing of that information, if necessary, with other volunteers so that the right help can be provided.
